Why Be a Member of Ontario Hunts Camps Association (OHCA)
Hunters sometimes ask why they should be a member of the Ontario Hunt Camps Association. Formed in 1962, the OHCA mandate is to ensure that hunters continue to enjoy the right to hunt. While our emphasis is on organized hunt camps across Ontario, we do have single hunters. So, “What does being a member of OHCA do for me?”
In response to that question the directors put together this list. For your camp membership fee of $100 annually, (clubs with less than 4 members pay $25 per member) you receive:
Liability insurance of 3 million dollars which covers your camp and all members.
A lobby group whose voice is accepted by government as a worthy voice for hunting. (Members sit on Algonquin Land Claims committees and the Big Game Committee of the MNR as well as local citizen’s committees of MNR dealing with forestry and wildlife management and have been invited to input on forest management and hwy. development issues as those apply to hunting.)
The organization supports natural feeding of deer through food plots and habitat enhancement.
The OHCA AGM held annually each September provides speakers and information sharing opportunities for the hunting community.
Members receive a membership card that entitles you to 10% off discounts at various retailers such as Marks Work Warehouse.
We maintain a website at www.ohca.ca
The organization puts out two newsletters a year. ‘The Stand’ comes out in the spring and in the fall, and attempts to keep hunters abreast of government regulations, as well as upcoming changes and happenings in the hunting community.
The Stand, provides an inexpensive ‘classifieds’ section for advertising of hunting items, for sale or wanted.
OHCA directors provide their time and expertise free. They receive no stipend or mileage allowance. Secretary and treasurer are paid positions.
Affiliation with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, in the sale of their lottery tickets used as our club fundraiser.
We participate in various outdoor shows and events such as the Sundridge Gun Show held annually in the spring.
We support and purport Ontarian’s right to hunt by keeping hunting in the forefront all year round.
Raising awareness of the right to hunt by attracting new camps and new members is a prime objective.
