This insurance is a valuable asset to your camp, and it's the responsibility of all members to be current.
Good Hunting!
Hunt Uninsured?
If you hunt in ontario without an OFAH membeship, you could be risking losing your home and other assets if you get sued for a shooting accident that you caused.
WHY?
Most of us have liabiliy insurance as part of our home insurance that would defend us if we had an accident.
But in most home policies there is a clause that states to the effect that if you are charged with a criminal offence related to any lawsuit, the home policy does not need to cover you.
In the case of the hunting accident, the shooter will be charged with at least careless-use-of-a-firearm charges. At the federal level, these are criminal charges and if successfully prosecuted it means that your home policycould refuse to cover you. To pay the settlement claim you might be forced to sell off assets like your home.
As an OFAH member, your OFAH liability and club liability insurance policies come in very handy. They will provide coverage in a shooting or fishing accident should the club member and / or the club get involved in a lawsuit.
That's why we have been saying for over 20 years,"DON'T HUNT UNINSURED - JOIN THE O.F.A.H"
When you join as a group, each member pays only $31.50 per year for a full membership in the O.F.A.H., including the Ontario Out of Doors magazine and all the discounts that regular members get. The O.F.A.H has been the Voice of Anglers and Hunters for over 80 years. There's no better time to join then right now.
